Well the last time I wrote about what nuffnang could do for its advertisement space, I sort of wrote at the end that Nuffnang has to be fast, else Advertlets would have implemented it before them.
Someone posted a comment on my blog that showed Nuffnang Malaysia’s blog post. You can view it here. Apparently Nuffnang Malaysia is serving charity ads. However this does not yet apply to Nuffnang Singapore.
However Advertlets responded faster again by posting a comment on my blog. For its hard work and speed, I shall credit them by posting their comments here as a form of advertising for them.
You may have noticed that recently, in our remnant ad space we are serving philanthropic and social cause ads for www.ilove.sg (an initiative to generate appreciation for the Singaporean arts scene – for music,movies and more), as well as the other ad we have been running for yvonnefoong.com (Yvonne Foong is a Neurofibromatosis Type 2 patient that needs help to raise funds).
And in Malaysia, we’re running ads for www.Merdeka.com, a website dedicated to online celebration of Malaysia’s 50th Anniversary. We will take your suggestion for consideration, however, in the meantime, if you know any other charities, organizations or causes that might benefit from our traffic, let us know and we will consider. Thanks.
See? Actually Advertlets has already been doing charitable things even before I suggested that idea to Nuffnang!
Another suggestion to Nuffnang though; you can search for Nuffnang in ping.sg and get all the feedback from bloggers! In that way,perhaps you can respond faster too! You have lots to improve Nuffnang!
GV passed me a phamplet yesterday after I bought tickets from them at Plaza Singapura. After reading the phamplet, I went ahead to GV’s website to know more about the Movie Club and its benefits.

I just wanted to say that sometimes I will delete comments if they seem to be offensive. Sometimes maybe the comments are marked as spam by Akismet Spam Plugin.
I would like to talk about the Nuffnang post I wrote earlier on suggestions for Nuffnang to take up. I received a comment that says if I do not like the ad, I can minimize it, and it provided 2 links to show that you can do it and nuffnang malaysia has already done it.
I have deleted that comment (it got marked as a spam too) because I felt that I wasn’t trying to say that I absolutely detest Nuffnang ads. I do know you can minimize it, but all I am trying to say is that Nuffnang can also show public service ads which benefits the public. Comments should be about whether my suggestion is feasible or not, whether it is good or not. The post is not able whether I can minimize the ad or not.
I’m sorry if anyone is offended when i delete your comments, but I feel that comments should be constructive and beneficial to discussion. Thanks so much for your kind understanding.
Well lately, our MWH (Men with handphones) have been busy at work generating camera shots of people doing the wrong things. Whether it its wrong or not, we do not know, but we do know that our MWH are judging them based on their own judgement. One of it is this.
I do not know if that it is morally right to send this photo to Stomp. I do not know what the person experienced or saw in reality. I guess the person must have been courageous to go up and take a photo whilst the man is playing with his dick. However I do feel thankful that the person’s face can’t be seen.
This is to give the person a benefit of the doubt. He may not be playing with his dick. In fact, all he may be doing is scratching his balls, and if someone identifies him from a photo for something he did not do, I guess it would be horrendous. It is also tasteless to send such a photo. Is the person trying to get that guy into trouble? In fact I believe that the proper way would be to call the police to handle him for indecent exposure. Let the police handle it.
I guess next time someone will send a photo to stomp about a robbery and not call the police.. The day that happens, we’re screwed.
After the post that I wrote on Nuffnang and Advertlets, with Advertlets being the “winner” of the two because of its fast response time and that it actually serves real ads. Nuffnang, on the other hand, serves ads that help promote Nuffnang. In the 1 month – 2 month period that I put up their ads, they have not given any other ads.
Now, this is what I propose Nuffnang can do with all the advertisement space. There are many Nuffnang members in Singapore, and most of them are showing default Nuffnang ads. Any online person who reads blogs would have at least seen the ad once. It makes no sense for them to be repeatedly exposed to such ads because the probability that they will click the ad another time is not 75%, not 50%, its 0.01%.
As such,would it be better to show another kind of advertisements while they are at it? They can show this special advertisement 50% of the time and people would like to put up Nuffnang ads. How then?
Well I’m sure most of you have heard of Crime Library. Crime Library Singapore is an organization that helps put up missing person’s advertisements online, on bus stops, in MRT stations and recently even on Stomp. They have helped many people find their missing relatives and they have been doing a wonderful job, considering that they are all volunteers. Now, if Nuffnang can be public-spirited and show ads that display the missing person’s photo and particulars, people will be more aware of them and there is a greater chance that they could be found. Wouldn’t it be good?
No to mention that this gives Nuffnang points in the blogger’s arena. Imagine being seen as a charitable company. This would also give us all an incentive to serve Nuffnang advertisements and not complain at all when we do not get any money. Isn’t this great?
Now all I can do is just blog about this. If Advertlets sees this and implements it before Nuffnang, then I guess I’m really sorry. I tried to improve Nuffnang’s image.
Guys, if you have an idea to share, why not blog about this too? Use the same title and blog about it!
In the past few weeks I’ve seen some people asking about wordpress in forums here, so I guess I will write a little guide for wordpress and how to set it up. For the clueless, wordpress is a program that allows you to blog on your own server. This means that you can get a blog on your own domain name and your own web host and all the data will be stored with the web host. You are no more under blogger or xanga.com!
Why do people want to use wordpress on your own web host instead of blogger? Firstly, you will not need to be afraid that your posts are against any terms and conditions of blogger or any other site. Its your own server and you can post whatever you want, other than porn or pirated stuff, of which your own web host will ban you. Secondly, wordpress is very flexible. You can install many plugins however you want. Plugins include comment spam detectors which detect spam and delete them. Finally, you get to put as many ads as you want. I do know that wordpress.com users cannot put any ads. A pity though.
Ok. Now moving on to the setting up of wordpress. I assumed that you have downloaded wordpress by now?
If you want, you can look at their information on installation.
By now I assume you also have a web host that supports PHP and MySQL? Do note that MySQL is extremely important. Without MySQL, you cannot have a database, and without a database, you cannot save your posts online. Thus please do check that your web host supports both php and MySQL.
*Note: For those with web hosts that come with software like Installatron, you can just install wordpress with a click of the mouse. Check your webhost out.
1) Unzip the file you just downloaded from wordpress
2) Decide if you want your blog to be on www.yourdomain.com or www.yourdomain.com/subfolder
3) Rename the wp-config-sample.php file to wp-config.php.
4) Open up wp-config.php using notepad
5) Now you will see that you need to input some values, primarily:
define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘wordpress’);
define(‘DB_USER’, ‘username’);
define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘password’);
the values of your database name, your database username and database password.
6) Log on to your web host and create a new database. Then substitute the values in. It will look something like this:
define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘mynewblog’);
define(‘DB_USER’, ‘superman’);
define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘supermanrocks’);
7) Have you decided if you want your blog to be on www.yourdomain.com or www.yourdomain.com/subfolder? If its the first, upload all the files to the directory. If its the second, create a new folder and upload the contents into the folder.
Install wordpress by accessing http://www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin/install.php or http://www.yourdomain.om/subfolder/wp-admin/install.php, depending on what you chose at point 7.
Isn’t it easy? Just follow the instructions from wordpress and you will be done. WordPress is definitely easy to install!
How many times has the title “man eating [insert food name here] on train” been flashed across your computer screen when you visit Stomp? This time, the title is Waffle Time on Train. However, the gist is still the same.
So what have I learnt after stumbling upon numerous such posts by stompers all year long? That people in Singapore eat on the trains and they do not care less. Even if there are many people who got shamed, they still do not care. Thus, what is the point in sending such pictures to Stomp?
The cost of sending such pictures to stomp includes battery life and the 80 cents you take to send that MMS. Is it worth it? Does Stomp give you any prize for your effort? No. In fact, all you get is flamings by stompers asking you, “why did you not approach the boy and tell him off?” Is it really worth it then?
My opinion is that its not worth it. This thing is an education issue. It is about their morals and it has to be taught from parent to child, from teacher to child, and from peer to peer. It does not help and will not help by taking photos to shame them on Stomp. In fact, they arn’t really shamed. Unless their peers see the post, it is very likely that they get away with what they have done. Even if their peers saw the post, will their peers mock them? Will they make him feel embarrassed and regretful towards his actions?
The answer, I believe, is no.
The key to solving this problem is through our schools and families. Stomp is not a solution. Thus, please stop sending such photos to stomp because they do not work effectively. You are only helping stomp get visits and they earn money when many visitors come to their site.

This movie is about a couple who is about to get married at a church. The pastor at the church, Reverend Frank, informs them that they have to go through a mandatory pre-wedding course to find out if they are suitable to get married. When questioned, he rephrased it as it is advisable to go through the course, and his young assistant says that this means that they have no choice but to comply.
The pastor takes them through a series of tests as well as going to the extend of bugging their apartment to hear what they are saying. After going through the tests, the two of them find out that they have plenty to know more about each other and that the other wasn’t living up to expectations.
Will they eventually get together and get married?
This movie is a light hearted romantic comedy which makes one realize that there are many things that couples expect of each other but don’t say, and more often than not it ends up in a quarrel. Sometimes we should just take a step back and review ourselves and we might realize that we have actually gone too far in our expectations. We should keep on reaffirming why we love each other and make things work out. The main theme of the movie is actually about communications and why it is important.
If you have the cash and you would like to enjoy some 1.5hours of light hearted moments with your girlfriend, watch Licence to Wed. However if you are looking for some serious plot or blockbuster, you may be checking at the wrong genre. Try “Licence to Wed”. 3.5 stars / 5 stars.
How many of you people are going to Johor Bahru again and again, even though there seems to be an increasing trend of crimes happening against Singaporeans? Over the past few months, our newspapers have carried plenty of interesting news on the JB crime scene.
The situation had become so bad that the Johor Police Chief once admitted that there isn’t enough policemen on the streets. Is it because of that? Or is it due to rampant corruption amongst junior officers? We will never know.
What we do know is that a fellow Singaporean has just been attacked and slashed right next to a police post. Yes, the robbers have become so brazen, attacking people in broad daylight next to a police post. The robbers took a parang and aimed at the man who blocked with his hands. His hands were slashed. Then,the robbers took the car and went away.
All these just to rob a car. I guess it would be nicer to just pull the guy out, put the parang at his throat and take the car? Why harm him and incur him his operation costs?
Other than being car jacked, our favourite neighbour has done many wonderful things to our citizens.
Famous stories include:
- If you do not give me money, I will poke you with a syringe full of HIV infected blood
- Only have 50cent in your pocket? And you call yourself a Singaporean?
The next one really makes me pissed off. Within a week, there are 2 cases of couples held hostage whilst the robbers gang rape the female in front of the male. Seriously. If you want to rob, rob by all means. Why rape someone? If it was up to me I will make sure every rapist caught will emerge from their jail term with an asshole so big that farting cleans their ass.
Johor is so dangerous now, with crime rates increasing. The police doesn’t seem to be helping much either. Why then, are we contributing to their economy? Fueling their economy and their black markets (the robbers) as well. It makes me mad when they single out Singaporeans to rob.
Perhaps we should just not go there and risk getting ourselves embroiled in more crime related work? Crime does not pay in Singapore, but it pays in Johor. It does not pay to be in Johor involved in a crime.
