I watched this movie the other day and I must say I am quite happy with this movie. This movie is in Korean, and is about two people vying in a competition to win the Royal Chef’s Knife. Their past, as well as their grandfathers all play a huge part in the whole story. Apparantly, both of them are descendent’s of the Royal Chef’s disciple.

This movie is about the good versus evil of people, and in the end, Good triumphs over evil. I especially like it when the person who used despicable means to try to win (like stealing the opponent’s charcoal) lost instead because of his own desire to win. The other guy won because he has love for his grandfather and he prepared a bowl of soup his grandfather prepared for him, and the humble soup actually was the alleged secret beef soup prepared by the Royal Chef for the King.

I guessed correctly what the soup should be about because I could feel the loyalty of the Royal Chef to his country, as well as to his King. Spoiler alert: Thus I knew that because of his utmost loyalty, the dish he prepared should show the King that, and the only way to show loyalty is to prepare a dish with nothing but Korean ingredients and the culture.

I feel that Le Grand Chef is a great movie to catch, and it’s a heartwarming movie like Da Chang Jin. If you have money to spare, why not catch this movie?

Hairspray – Fantastic Musical Movie (5/5)

Hairspray

If you haven’t watched Hairspray, do so before it ends its run in Singapore. Hairspray has been around for week and I finally caught it a few days ago. Hairspray is a musical-like movie, just like Grease, where there is a story, but most of the parts are in songs. The rest are speech, but songs form the bulk.

The songs are great and brings out the story very well. The story is about this girl who hopes to be on this particular TV show and what she did to get in. There are antagonists who wants to kick her out because she became popular, and has views that there should be racial integration on that TV show.

I don’t want to type out what goes on because its going to be a spoiler, but do go down and watch it if you want to be entertained. Oh..John Travolta crossed dressed too..Or rather, he’s a lady. :P

Some information:
Cast: Robin William, John Krasinski, Mandy Moore
Genre:Romance/ Comedy
Language: English
Release Date:16 August 2007
Running Time:92 minutes

This movie is about a couple who is about to get married at a church. The pastor at the church, Reverend Frank, informs them that they have to go through a mandatory pre-wedding course to find out if they are suitable to get married. When questioned, he rephrased it as it is advisable to go through the course, and his young assistant says that this means that they have no choice but to comply.

The pastor takes them through a series of tests as well as going to the extend of bugging their apartment to hear what they are saying. After going through the tests, the two of them find out that they have plenty to know more about each other and that the other wasn’t living up to expectations.

Will they eventually get together and get married?

This movie is a light hearted romantic comedy which makes one realize that there are many things that couples expect of each other but don’t say, and more often than not it ends up in a quarrel. Sometimes we should just take a step back and review ourselves and we might realize that we have actually gone too far in our expectations. We should keep on reaffirming why we love each other and make things work out. The main theme of the movie is actually about communications and why it is important.

If you have the cash and you would like to enjoy some 1.5hours of light hearted moments with your girlfriend, watch Licence to Wed. However if you are looking for some serious plot or blockbuster, you may be checking at the wrong genre. Try “Licence to Wed”. 3.5 stars / 5 stars.

Rush Hour 3

Its already the third instalment of the series and its just like Ocean’s series where you do not have to watch the first few episodes to really understand what is going on. This movie is quite entertaining actually, although most of the fun parts are shown in the trailers. Some background information on Rush Hour 3 and some urls:

Screen Time: 90 minutes

Rotten Tomatoes Trailer

The movie is too short in my own opinion. I don’t really expect a movie to only last 1 hour and 30 minutes. Most of the time I would feel that a movie should at least last 2 hours for greater enjoyment. Haha. However I must say it is really funny and entertaining despite its short time frame. The story ends with a nice surprise and I must say I quite like the taxi driver that appears in the show.

In my opinion, Chris Tucker who acts as Jackie’s good friend is a very funny man with many facial expressions. I like the scene best when he was outside the room where Jackie Chan was fighting and he thought Jackie was having sex. His expression was great and funny. I think that he is quite a great actor for such comedy movies.

This movie is rated 3.5 stars by me and I really think that it is worth going to the movies to see this. However if you don’t enjoy comedy then please do not watch it. Haha. Perhaps you will feel its more worth it if you go and see the movie when you are only paying $7.00 per ticket?

Paprika – The anime in The PictureHouse

I went to watch Paprika today. Its shown exclusively only at The Cathay (beside Plaza Singapura, Dhoby Gaut) in The Picturehouse. What this means is that there is only 1 theater in the whole of Singapore showing this anime movie. There are about 6 slots daily.

The movie is in Japanese (duh!) and has English subtitles. Basically the movie is about dreams and a group of scientists have invented an object, the DC MINI, that allows you to enter people’s dreams and help them. At the start of the movie, Paprika helps a cop deal with his problems in his dreams.

The DC MINI is stolen and all hell breaks loose as dreams are merged. Who is the one who stole the DC MINI and creating all the chaos?

This movie is rated NC-16 due to the naked anime character scenes. No its not hentai. The scenes are very short and there is nothing much to see so perverts can save their money and don’t watch this movie. =)

This anime is not bad, but sometimes you get confused between dreams and reality. I think you are supposed to be confused because it is trying to show that the characters in the anime are confused too.

I rate this anime 3/5 stars. It is pretty interesting, just like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. One jumps through dreams and reality the other jumps through time. =)

Hope everyone who watches this anime will enjoy it throughly as I do.

The Girl who leapt through time

The Girl who leapt throug time

Rating: PG
Language: Japanese with Chinese and English subtitles
Genre: Animation / Fantasy
Director: Mamoru Hosoda
Cast: Riisa Naka, Takuya Ishida, Ayami Kakiuchi, Sachie Hara, Mitsutaka Itakuru

Awards: Animation of the Year, Japan Academy Prize; Special Award, Hochi Film Awards; Best Animation Film, Mainichi Film Concours

When 17-year-old Makoto Konno gains the ability to, quite literally, “leap” backwards through time, she immediately sets about improving her grades and preventing personal mishaps. However, she soon realises that changing the past isn’t as simple as it seems, and eventually, will have to rely on her new powers to shape the future of her and her friends.

I watched it yesterday night. I would say the standard belongs to those of Tokimeki Memorial: Only Love. The plot and excitement is not high enough to be considered near Bleach or GhostHunt, but the whole thing is not as lame as Kyo No Go No Ni or Shinigami No Ballad.

However its not the best Movie Anime (Movime) that I have watched. The best is Spirited Away followed by Howl’s Moving Castle and lastly it is The Girl who leapt through time.

Anyway I really enjoyed watching the movie especially hearing the Japanese words coming from their mouths. =) If you’ve got money to spare and loves Japanese like me, then go watch it. Cathay’s prices are 50cents lesser than GV and Shaw!
